The judiciary committee is seeking tribal members interested in fulfilling the Chief Judge position for the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Court. This is an elected position and if qualified your name will appear on the ballot at the next tribal elections held on October 13, 2018.
Applicant must meet the following requirements:
Must be an enrolled member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans.
An applicant holding an advanced degree is preferred.
Preference may be given to a person with previous experience as a judge in a court of general jurisdiction.
Preference may be given to a person with knowledge of Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal tradition and custom.
Must be at least 35 years of age.
Must complete an examination that has been approved by the Judicial Commission and the Tribal Council, and obtain at least 75% proficiency
Must demonstrate knowledge of Federal Indian Law and demonstrate experience with law and dispute resolution.
Must demonstrate ability to write clear and concise case summaries and judgements.
Must possess knowledge of or familiarity with culture and history of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
Must successfully obtain the tribal Elder-Youth License pursuant to Chapter 65.
Must be mentally competent.
Shall not have been convicted of, or entered a plea of no contest to, any felony.
Shall not be serving as a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Council or be employed by the Tribe or its enterprises in another capacity
Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
