Latest news and updates regarding COVID-19 from the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Departments

  • (Shawano County, Wis.) – Shawano-Menominee Counties Public Health Department (SMCHD) once more has to appeal to your sense of the right thing to do… after several months of less than five (5) positive COVID-19 cases daily, Shawano County is experiencing significant increases in a very short time.

     


  • Shawano-Menominee Counties – Like many counties in Wisconsin, the people of Shawano and Menominee counties have experienced increased hospital admissions due to the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus in our own back yard! This has led to our own crisis of not only an overflow of our people needing hospital beds for critical care, but we now are experiencing multiple reported deaths almost daily over the last 4 weeks. We have to remember that these deaths in our community are impacted by COVID-19 and include our family and friends.  


  • We continue to experience a significant number of COVID-19 cases across Wisconsin and across Shawano and Menominee Counties.  Unfortunately, due to the increased numbers of cases, health departments throughout Wisconsin are struggling with keeping up with the extent of contact tracing needs.  Until cases decrease again, we still continue to do the best as we can with contact tracing, but we ask for your additional help during this time.  Here are some ways you can help us out: 


  • This week it appears Wisconsin is experiencing the highest number of daily new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the nation.  It also appears Shawano and Menominee Counties are among the 7 counties in Wisconsin with the highest numbers of cases per 100,000 people in the last 7 days.  Due to these significant increases, Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department would like to remind our Shawano and Menominee residents that the risk for getting COVID-19 is very real in our community right now. 


  • Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department is saddened to announce that over this weekend, Shawano County has had its first death related to COVID-19.  To respect the privacy of the individual and the family, we will not provide additional details at this time.
