Self Isolation Order Extension

The Stockbridge-Munsee Tribal Council, with the concurrence of the Health Director, hereby issues an order directing that persons who live on tribal lands, as well as tribal employees who are on leave from work, self-isolate and shelter in place at their home to the extent possible to limit opportunities to transmit the COVID-19 virus to others.

This is another extension of the original order that became effective on March 22, 2020. The extension makes the order effective to 8AM on May 26, 2020.

As part of its comprehensive response to this pandemic, the Tribal Council orders people to use social distancing of at least 6 feet and bans gatherings of more than 10 people on tribal lands. This is not intended to be a limit on people who live in the same household. However, families need to be mindful that family gatherings provide opportunities for virus transmission.

In addition, the Tribal Council enacted a reservation-wide curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM daily starting on April 10, 2020 as another mechanism to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This curfew supplements the order to self-isolate at home and the ban on gatherings. It prohibits people from being on roads, in public places, or otherwise away from their home during curfew hours except for authorized purposes.

This order is granted under the Tribal Council’s inherent authority as a native sovereign nation, as well as the authority identified in its Public Health State of Emergency delegation on March 15, 2020, Resolution #044-20, and Chapter 26-A of StockbridgeMunsee Tribal Law, Communicable Disease, Vaccination, and Quarantine Ordinance.

As part of this order, people are permitted to travel to the extent necessary for medical treatment, for work, or to purchase needed supplies. If possible, people should not travel beyond a 60-mile radius. People must avoid travel to and from areas that are known to be a hot-spot for COVID-19 infection. The Tribal Council understands there may be persons who provide critical services that need to travel beyond a 60-mile radius and authorizes them on a case-by-case basis.

This order shall expire as of 8 AM on May 26, 2020. It will be reassessed at least weekly and may be cancelled, re-issued, or modified at any time by action of the Tribal President or Vice-President on behalf of the Tribal Council.
