GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete.  Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying, duties, to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.  May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.

DUTIES

  1. Ability to utilize principles of analytical scientific reasoning to describe problems, obtain data, validate facts, and fashion out logical conclusions. 
  2. Organize accounting tasks which will include management of general ledger, record books, accounts payable journals and/or project accounting books.
  3. Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. 
  4. Confirm all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment, making sure that all applicable policies are followed.
  5. Process four-way purchase order matching invoices, and non-purchase order requests such as: conference/seminar fees, travel advances and reimbursements, memberships, refunds and overpayments, per capita payments, honorariums, contracts, and interdepartmental invoices according to Tribal policies.
  6. Report discrepancies found in records.
  7. Assist with vendor 1099’s annually.
  8. Must have a strong work ethic, be well organized, a self-starter and have time management skills.
  9. Work independently and with a team in a fast paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timelines. 
  10. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  11. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  12. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  13. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
  14. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. The applicant must have an Associate’s degree in business or a closely related field.  Must have 1-2 years related experience.
  2. Experience with Great Plains software is preferred.
  3. All information within the financial department is confidential; a violation of confidentiality will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  4. Must obtain and maintain coverage under the employer’s Employee Dishonesty policy.
  5. Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
  6. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening.  Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  7. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  8. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
  9. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
  10. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.  Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.
  11. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.
  4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
