The Ag Agent will oversee the Stockbridge Munsee Community food sovereignty initiatives, including overseeing the management of the community produce farm, community gardens, and gardening educational classes. Along with overseeing the management of fields used for cash crops and will have the ability to negotiate agreements with farmers, planters, and others who will conduct business with the tribe.  The Ag Agent will guide the tribe in sustainable farming practices and overall management of agriculture projects.


All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

  1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
  3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
  4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays
  5. Must be COVID 19 fully vaccinated and remain up to date with required doses.


  1. Develops and implements a production management plan consistent with sustainable standards to achieve harvest goals for vegetables, fruit, and traditional foods
  2. Schedule harvest goals, crop selections, plans for rotations and sequencing of plantings, cultivation, pest and disease management, harvesting and soil fertility.
  3. Create and maintain all budgets for successful business and growing seasons.
  4. Place orders for seed and farm supplies.  Research and order tools and farm equipment in accordance with budget.
  5. Cultivation activities, hand and machine powered.
  6. Insect and weed control, fertility monitoring, and general field observation, nutrient management
  7. Oversees harvest and post-harvest handling and sales of produce.
  8. Develop educational content for in person and online learning regarding food production and preservation
  9. Oversee the continued development of grant project, including writing grants and maintain accurate records for grant reporting.
  10. Must have a strong work ethic, be well organized, a self-starter and have time management skills.
  11. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  12. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  13. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  14. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  15. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
  16.   1. Must have a bachelor’s degree in science in the field of Agriculture and two years of experience or three years’ experience of produce farming including two years in a management position on a farm.
  2. Combination of education and experience may be considered.
  3. Previous experience on a vegetable farm preferred
  4. Familiar with tractors, irrigation, cover cropping, and pest management using organic methods.
  5. Experience with farm record keeping and using Microsoft Excel preferred
  6. Experience with farm equipment.
  7. Must have excellent communication and leadership skills.
  8. Machine maintenance preferred.
  9. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license.  Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance
  10. Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
  11. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening.  Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  12. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  13. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
  14. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
  15. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.



  1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.
  4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
