The Tribal family social worker will work closely with the Indian Child Welfare Department Manager as well as the Elderly Services Department Manager to provide case management services for the community, and to assist with the specific needs of each of the departments. The tribal family social worker will also be providing services to Stockbridge- Munsee community descendants. The social worker is expected to work on a highly independent basis and work cooperatively with other services and organizations such as other tribal departments and programs, county social service agencies, and all other agencies or individuals involved in the family situation. Services are provided based on an individual needs and assessment and service plans.  Explain and provide information concerning program features, requirements and program options.


All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

  1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
  3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
  4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.
  5. Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description.


  1. Receive and investigate instances of child abuse and / or neglect as determined by the ICW manager, as well as assist the Elderly Services Manager with elders needs as appropriate.
  2. Shall work with a high degree of independence in administering services and in using tribal orcommunity resources.
  3. Shall fill in or assist the ICW manager, and the Elderly Services Manager as determined necessary.
  4. Shall develop appropriate service plans for client(s), and families as needed in child welfare or elderly services.
  5. Shall provide support services for program families.
  6. Shall assist clients with the utilization of community resources; interpret rules and regulations andpolicies for the clients pertaining to resources being sought.
  7. Shall make necessary home visits to carry out case management assignments, school visits, assisting with transportation, referring to counseling, medical and dental care, hygiene assistance all needs that may arise with a family
  8. Shall maintain case records and documentation.
  9. Shall provide the appropriate departments with reports as needed, and necessary.
  10. Shall assist with community outreach to the community as needed.
  11. Shall attend in-services and other training courses designated to further understanding family and elderly case management process and or case management.
  12. Shall provide direct services for applicable families and clients and other related services in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Stockbridge Munsee community, and surrounding areas as necessary for program children and families, and elders.
  13. Shall be available for local and out of the area travel as required for job related training.
  14. Shall attend all required meetings and functions as requested.
  15. Have good communicative skills, oral and written.
  16. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  17.   1. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field. 
  2. Must be certified or eligible for certification as a Social Worker in Wisconsin.
  3. Must have at one year of direct job experience or training working with children, youth and families. 
  4. Have knowledge, experience and understanding about family social work. Must also have a
  5. willingness to enhance learning into different areas of social work, i.e.: elderly services, childwelfare.
  6. Have an understanding about trauma informed care, and how trauma (generational, gestational,historical etc.) has an impact on family systems and parenting.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with Native American people in culturally diverseenvironments.
  8. Exhibits the ability to manage time well and work under stressful conditions with an eventemperament.
  9. Displays the ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public.
  10. Demonstrates the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  11. Displays the skill and depth of job knowledge in assessing problem situations and formulating plans for service.
  12. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening.  Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  13. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  14. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current  employment.
  15. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
  16. Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Elder/Youth License Requirement as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
  17. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required.  Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’slicense.  Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the​​​​​​​ driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.
  18. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.
